Referral fees: Amazon's published 2026 schedules. Fees updated 29 Oct 2026. How every line is calculated

Why the German number rarely matches the American one

It is almost never the referral rate that moves the answer. On a Home & Kitchen item both marketplaces charge 15%. What changes is the amount that 15% is charged on.

In Germany your list price includes 19% VAT, and Amazon calculates the referral fee on the VAT-exclusive amount. A €29.99 listing is a €25.20 sale to you. The 15% comes off €25.20, not €29.99. In the US there is no VAT inside your price at all, so the fee is charged on the full list price.

Stack a higher fulfilment fee and a higher return rate on top and a SKU that looks healthy in Ohio can be underwater in Bavaria — while still being perfectly profitable on paper in your spreadsheet.
